Today, we struggle at the hands of the
unsolvable,
Husbands quarantined from wives, sister from
brothers,
Yet, we call this situation “not plausible”
And ignorantly blame others.
Today, sanitiser sells more than treats,
All activities have come to a halt.
We wear masks as we walk down streets,
But still scream “God, it’s not my fault”
Today, we sit completely isolated,
As alone as we can be,
One thought being contemplated,
“Why is the world against me”
We speak a white lie
With these statements that we say,
For, people really die,
Because of Yesterday.
Yesterday, that wrapper was thrown on the
floor,
Those trees were mercilessly chopped, torn
down.
Yesterday, was when we chose to ignore,
Yet now, we sit with a frown.
Yesterday was when plastic replaced water,
Those millions of fishes died,
We were the ones behind the slaughter,
Yet, now we are the ones that cry.
Yesterday, we showed off our Gucci shoes,
We flaunted to every single friend,
We longed for those aah’s and ooh’s,
Even though it was all pretend.
Yesterday, was a competition, each one on their
own,
“Missing” signs for friendships that tore,
An incessant race, no time to groan,
For everything was fair in love and war.
Now we yearn for tomorrow,
It may never come, lost forever,
We live on thoughts of sorrow,
Rather than igniting endeavour.
Forget the words: never, pain, sorrow,
fate, hate and taboo,
For if we wish to see tomorrow,
Focus on what we must do.
We must learn to respect, every creature
Put aside our ignorance at last,
Not abuse and exploit Mother Nature,
For she can leave us aghast.
We must help repair the damage done,
Take responsibility for our actions,
Ignite a fire that once begun,
Leads to a series of chain reactions.
We must learn to accept, understand the value
of oneself,
Not get lost in a superficial world of brands,
For there’s no importance in a decorative
shelf,
Unless its built from one’s own hands.
We must come together, yet be 6 feet apart,
achieve our societal goals,
For we are still close at heart,
And united by our souls.
We must remember: love, compassion, humanity,
Right, together, one,
For even in the darkest calamity,
Hope will be our Sun.
If we stand as tall as a tree,
We shine as bright as the Sun,
I have no doubt, trust me,
Tomorrow will come.
